Why are there roughly 400 million Microsoft Refugee Computers in the world right now?
Some time ago, Microsoft mandated that all hardware that would have Microsoft Windows installed on it be compatible with things called UEFI, Secure Boot, and TPM 2.0. Basically it allowed Microsoft to keep a database of "legitimate" bootable software, and any software not in that database, would be denied permission to boot moments after the power came on. (There's more to it, but that's quite enough to be getting on with.)
Once that was all in place, Microsoft made the demand that made roughly 400 million computers "obsolete": every Windows machine must be upgraded to Windows 11 in order to keep getting security and usability updates. Unfortunately, some 400 million working computers don't have the TPM chip on their motherboard (and/or lack an eighth generation CPU), and so cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 at all.
SO now we have a bunch of people who can't "upgrade," or who don't want to, because their computer works fine and they aren't interested in Microsoft's definition of "obsolete." These people are prime candidates for Linux User Training and Facilitation.
But there are also a bunch of people who, for reasons, have to stay on Windows, or have already upgraded their machines, and now have an "obsolete" machine in their closet, garage, or under their desk that they can't use or sell, because it's obsolete! They can't throw it away either, because it still works! But they can't sell it, or even give it away, because it's "obsolete." But throwing it away would...oh, you get it!
